Amr Mounib Photography

Syra Arts is pleased to present, a solo exhibition of new photography works by artist Amr Mounib. Please join us on October 17th from 6 to 8 pm for the exhibition opening and to meet the artist.

With all the events that have occurred in Egypt lately, Amr felt an impelling need to revisit and get back in touch with what is the true essence of his native country: the land and the people. He sought the still and stark beauty of the country as it is reflected in the population and in the culture.

The images for this exhibition have been taken and captured over a period of four years: 2007 - 2011. They capture the true stillness and purity of the empty spaces that would otherwise have been filled with people. Throughout the centuries, Egypt has witnessed a plethora of conquerors and civilizations. Now, only the land the monuments remain: a testimonial to a rich history and a strong structure of both the people and the architecture.

Amr Mounib is a photographer whose work ranges from photojournalism to fashion. His primary interest lies in the interaction of light with subject matter, his primary focus, the spatial relationship between man-made and natural objects. Mounib uses juxtaposition to create a language of shapes and movement, contrasting the fluid nature of natural forms with the geometry of man-made objects, and defining space with light and shadow. His compositions challenge the viewer to discover with him that light, growth, physics, change the nature of an object moment by moment, and that a moment never repeats. This sense of movement lends a sense of drama even to Mounib’s still life studies.

The exhibition shall run till the 5th of November 2013. A portion of the sale of Amr Mounib’s photography will be donated by the artist and Syra Arts to the Egyptian Cancer Network in support of Hospital 57357 – a children’s cancer treatment center located in Cairo.
